Project The Grand Arcade

An Overview

January 31, 2005 —The Grand Arcade is located at 408 West St. Claire Avenue. It consists of four buildings located at the intersection of West Sixth Street and St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland's Historic Warehouse District. The wood and steel-framed buildings range from three to six stories and were constructed between 1856 and 1885. Prior to renovation, one of the buildings was occupied by the City Mission, a shelter for homeless men. The ground floor of the adjacent structure was partially occupied by a discount clothing store and the balance of the buildings were empty.

Renovation began in the fall of 1990 and took approximately 14 months to complete. The Grand Arcade Project now consists of storefront retail space and apartments. The Grand Arcade has been successfully leased since completion. In 1999, the Grand Arcade Project was converted to condominiums, representing the first condominium sales in downtown Cleveland in more than 20 years.
